The most important feature of pollen is that it is rich in vegetable protein, with a content of 20-25%, comparable to soybeans and peas. Pollen contains more than 20 amino acids, including 8 essential free amino acids and taurine, which have many physiological functions. Through metabolism, amino acids can perform critical physiological roles and functions. Firstly, amino acids synthesise tissue proteins and are involved in growth and development. Secondly, amino acids can be transformed into acids, hormones, antibodies, creatine, and other ammonia-containing substances, which participate in the coordination of various physiological activities. Thirdly, amino acids can be transformed into carbohydrates and fats, which are used for energy storage. Fourthly, amino acids can be oxidised into carbon dioxide, water, and urea to provide energy. As an amino acid concentrate, pollen can have both nutritional and medicinal value. The amino acid content of pollen varies from species to species, and testing the amino acid content of pollen is an important way to assess its nutritional value.

In addition, free or constitutive amino acids can be determined according to different needs. 1. Sample Requirements

• Fresh flowers, >5g;
• Pollen from fresh flowers or dried pollen from different families, >1g.

*Quick freeze storage with liquid nitrogen minimises leakage time of plant samples at room temperature.

*Experimental samples are non-returnable; please make your own backups. Control and experimental groups need to be set up prior to sampling, and it is recommended to have more than 3 replicates per group.

*No restrictions are placed on plant species. For species with special requirements or rare species, please contact our staff for more information.

*For experiments requiring special testing, please feel free to contact our staff for a bespoke testing service.

2. HPLC-MS

Our high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry assays offer the advantages of high throughput, accuracy, and sensitivity. We offer mainly essential amino acids but we can also customise our assays to suit your project requirements.

3. Amino Acid Content Analysis

The raw data from HPLC tandem mass spectrometry will ultimately be analysed by our professional chromatography data analysis experts. They will write detailed and at-a-glance reports for you, including standardised and customised analyses. The analysis reports will be uploaded as soon as the chromatography data is available for you to download and view.
