Utilization of Coffee By-Products
Many by-products of coffee cultivation and production, such as coffee pulp, seed hulls, endocarp, coffee flowers, coffee leaves, and coffee residues, are discarded as waste, which is a waste of resources and pollutes the environment.
Lifeasible is a biological company with many years of experience in plant research services. We continue to conduct in-depth coffee research to promote the sustainable development of the coffee industry. By conducting comprehensive and in-depth research on coffee, we aim to provide effective solutions for the comprehensive exploitation of coffee by-products.
Application of coffee by-products
- Coffee essential oil. It is one of the more mature commercial applications, produced mainly from roasted coffee beans through solvent leaching, mainly used in roasting and beverage manufacturing, etc.
- Organic fertilizer. Coffee grounds are high in oil and crude fiber, containing about 2% nitrogen content. This can provide the energy needed by bacteria and convert organic matter into nitrogen fertilizer for crop and vegetable cultivation.
- Coffee fiber material. Currently, coffee fiber materials can be made into coffee cups, food grinders, coffee fiber clothing, etc.
- Activated carbon. The waste residue of freshly ground coffee is used to prepare coffee residue activated carbon, which can be used as a deodorizer and deodorizer.
- Fruit vinegar and fruit wine. From coffee waste, we use the microbial fermentation of coffee peel to brew fruit vinegar and wine with a unique nutritional flavor.
- Cosmetics. Coffee pectin can be used as a raw material for natural cosmetics, turning waste into treasure.
We develop effective solutions for the comprehensive development and utilization of coffee by-products
In the utilization of coffee byproducts, we have continued to conduct in-depth research on coffee byproducts, aiming to improve the full utilization of coffee byproducts and to develop effective solutions for the comprehensive development and utilization of coffee by-products.
- Relying on our advanced technological methods, we have helped researchers to provide various solutions in the development of coffee pectin sugar, coffee peel tea, coffee fruit vinegar, coffee fruit wine, coffee leaf tea, and other products.
- We have provided some guidance on the development and utilization of coffee by-products by determining the conventional nutritional composition of coffee and its by-products and evaluating the level of their feeding value. For example, we determined the crude protein content of coffee husk, fruit, and beans. We found that the crude fat content was highest in coffee beans and lowest in coffee grounds. This could be used to reflect the high feeding value of coffee fruit.
- We used coffee husk as raw material to purify and characterize its rich polyphenols, and have completed the determination of its antioxidant activity and its anti-inflammatory effect, and provided a theoretical basis for the extraction and comprehensive utilization of coffee husk polyphenols.
