Determination of Cellulose in Coffee
Coffee beans are rich in cellulose, and the gradual darkening of color during roasting is the increasing carbonization process of these fibers. The two bursts in coffee roasting are the sound made by the fibers in the coffee beans stretching and breaking due to the expansion of the internal gas. Coffee beans are mostly cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin that cannot be absorbed and used by the human body. The building fibers of the cell walls of coffee beans are cut and ground into fine particles that are more easily dissolved or suspended in water.
Lifeasible is dedicated to bioscience research. We offer a comprehensive solution for coffee testing. For the structural characteristics of cellulose, we established a series of characteristic property testing methods. These methods include soluble fiber content, insoluble fiber content, total fiber content, total hemicellulose content, and other testing services.
Cellulose is another proof of coffee's health
About 70% of roasted coffee beans contain cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. The human intestine does not contain the enzymes to break down these fibers, so these insoluble fibers are not absorbed in all in an individual's body. Regardless of soluble or insoluble fiber, after drinking coffee, it helps to increase bowel movements, especially when combined with caffeine. Circulation is accelerated, and the effect is more visible.
The determination of cellulose in coffee that we offer can be applied in the following studies
- Identification of the authenticity of different coffee varieties.
- An identifying indicator for the identification of good and bad coffee quality.
- One of the references for the study of the nutritional composition of coffee.
- Evaluation of the applicability of coffee processing by-products.
Determination of cellulose using UV spectrophotometry
Types of cellulose in coffee | Measurement method |
---|---|
Soluble fibers | UV spectrophotometry |
Insoluble fibers | |
Total fiber content | |
Total hemicellulose content |
The UV spectrophotometric method for cellulose determination is simple, rapid, accurate, and requires small amounts of material. It has now become a routine analytical tool in laboratories in the life sciences. We use UV spectrophotometry to achieve rapid, accurate determination of the cellulose content in coffee. Using UV spectrophotometry to analyze the cellulose content in different varieties or types of coffee, we provide original ideas and methods for coffee identification and cultivation management.
