Pollen Category Identification Service

Pollen is the male organ of flowering plants and is mainly spread by wind and insect vectors. In recent years, pollen allergy has become a troubling health problem as the number of people suffering from pollen allergy continues to rise. This is where the detection and identification of pollen types become particularly important. Different patients have different allergic reactions to different types of pollen, the distribution of pollen in the atmosphere is diverse and variable, and environmental conditions such as relative humidity and air pollutants such as ozone and nitrogen oxides can impact the pollen distribution. At the same time, as a biological sample, pollen has a complex composition, making accurate classification and identification of pollen difficult.

Currently, the methods used to classify and detect pollen are mainly based on the analysis of morphological information. For example, pollen is identified manually by observing the appearance of the pollen and the characteristic morphology of the outer pores and grooves of the pollen wall. However, this method is very difficult to distinguish between samples with similar characteristics, such as pollen from the same family. It is only suitable for the differentiation of pollen with large morphological differences.

What We Offer

Lifeasible offers high-resolution Raman spectroscopy-based pollen class identification methods, which allow us to provide a more detailed classification of morphologically indistinguishable pollen based on our professional morphological analysis service. Lifeasible's higher resolution Raman spectroscopy, with relatively narrower and sharper peaks, will greatly improve the accuracy of pollen sample identification. Lifeasible has a professional and extensive Raman spectroscopy classification model for Raman spectroscopy data analysis and pollen category matching. All you need to do is supply the pollen sample to be identified on request Our experienced team of experts will operate under a strict, standardised process to provide you with a detailed analysis report in a short period of time. Lifeasible has always insisted on efficient, accurate, and cost-effective pollen identification services.

Service Flow

Pollen Category Identification Service

1. Sample Requirements

Fresh flowers, >5g; Pollen from fresh flowers from different families, >1g.

*For samples used for plant cultivation, please consult our staff to determine the sample conditions and dosage.

*The experimental samples will not be returned; please back them up yourself. Before sampling, it is necessary to set up the control and experimental groups, and each group is suggested to repeat more than 3 times.

*Quick-frozen preservation with liquid nitrogen can minimize the leakage time of plant samples at room temperature.

*There is no restriction on plant varieties. For varieties with special requirements or rare varieties, please contact our staff for more information.

2. Sample Preparation Notes

  • The size and morphology of mature pollen particles vary greatly from plant to plant. For pollen with large particles and large quantities, the pollen is collected directly by shaking or scraping off; For pollen with smaller particles that are not easily observed by the naked eye, the pollen is dried and then crushed by grinding. Depending on the diameter of the pollen particles, different sieves with different aperture sizes are used to screen the pollen to obtain a pure standard pollen sample.
  • Due to the complex composition of pollen samples and the possible influence of contaminants, the fluorescent background signal of the sample may affect the detection of the Raman signal. Lifeasible's experts will pre-treat the samples using photobleaching to minimise the interference of the background signal.

3. Raman Spectrum Peak Position Analysis
