Carbohydrate Content Testing in Pollen

Carbohydrates are polyhydroxy aldehydes or ketones and a class of compounds that can generate polyhydroxy aldehydes or ketones after hydrolysis, consisting of the three elements of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. The carbohydrates in pollen account for about 25% to 48%, mainly including monosaccharides (glucose, fructose, galactose, etc.), oligosaccharides (sucrose, maltose, lactose, etc.), and polysaccharides (starch, dextrin, pectin, cellulose, etc.). The polysaccharides in pollen have a strong immune-promoting effect and certain cancer-preventive functions. Determining carbohydrates in pollen is important for assessing pollen's nutritional value and opening up pollen applications' direction.

What We Offer

Lifeasible offers you a high throughput carbohydrate content testing service in pollen to advance your pollen-related research. We have been promoting the use of high-performance ion chromatography (HPIC) for the determination of carbohydrates in pollen, which is more effective for the detection of favorable monosaccharides and more compatible with the detection of complex carbohydrates in pollen. The standardized procedure for determining carbohydrates in pollen is one of the reasons for the efficient analysis. In addition, the analytical procedures are carried out by a team of experienced experts and follow strict Qc standards. So our pollen carbohydrate testing service ensures high efficiency with accurate results.

Service Flow

Carbohydrate Content Testing in Pollen

1. Sample Requirements

  • Fresh flowers, >5g;
  • Pollen from fresh flowers or dried pollen from different families, >1g.

*Quick freeze storage with liquid nitrogen minimises leakage time of plant samples at room temperature.

*Experimental samples are non-returnable, please make your own backups. Control and experimental groups need to be set up prior to sampling, and it is recommended to have more than 3 replicates per group.

*No restrictions are placed on plant species. For species with special requirements or rare species, please contact our staff for more information.

*For experiments requiring special testing, please feel free to contact our staff for a bespoke testing service.

2. HPLC

HPLC is very suitable for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of carbohydrates and is particularly effective for the detection of monosaccharides and oligosaccharides.

3. Carbohydrate Content Analysis

Detailed carbohydrate analysis reports will be written by experts based on raw data analysis. You will get the raw data and the graphical analysis of the carbohydrate content.

We Do Better

  • Lifeasible offers you the advantage of HPIC-based carbohydrate content analysis with high sensitivity and accuracy.
  • The process for analysing the carbohydrate content of pollen is standardised and is not restricted to pollen types.
  • The instrumental analysis is complemented by professional manual screening to help differentiate between sugar isomers.
  • With Lifeasible's pollen carbohydrate analysis service, all you need to do is provide samples on request and end up with a detailed analysis report.
