Analysis of Plant lncRNA Biology

During the flow of genetic information from gene sequences to proteins, RNA assumes the important role of transmitting the information. In the early days of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) discovery, its biological properties were not fully understood. Since the study of protein-coding genes has long been mature, researchers have tried to explore the properties of lncRNAs using protein-coding gene studies. However, researchers soon found that lncRNAs are very different regarding sequence structure, conservativeness, and evolutionary patterns.

Plant lncRNA Conservation Analysis

  • In terms of lncRNA conservation, almost all studies have come to the consistent conclusion that lncRNAs are very poorly conserved compared to protein-coding genes. However, studying the conserved nature of lncRNAs still makes an essential contribution to the understanding of lncRNAs, so it is still of great importance.
  • We help our clients to analyze the conservation of lncRNAs in three main aspects, sequence, structure, and location. In general, the primary structure of plant lncRNA is poorly conserved, but the secondary and tertiary structures are highly conserved. The conservativeness of lncRNAs in these three aspects is not completely independent and needs to be considered and chosen flexibly.

Plant lncRNA Specificity Analysis

  • Recent studies on the biological properties of lncRNAs have focused on specificity and conservativeness. Plant lncRNAs are extremely spatiotemporally heterogeneous in expression. The results of these studies will contribute to understanding the biological significance and evolution of IncRNAs in plants.
  • We help our clients to analyze the specificity of lncRNAs from two main perspectives, lineage, and tissue. In both animals and plants, lineage specificity of lncRNAs has been found. In addition to the lineage specificity of lncRNAs, their tissue specificity is also particularly notable.
  • We also offer cell-specific analysis of plant lncRNAs. In tissue-specific studies of lncRNAs, an overall trend of low expression of lncRNAs compared to protein-coding genes was found. This may be due to low levels of lncRNAs in all cells or expressed in only a few specific cells/cell subpopulations.
