Determination of Proline in Plant Tissues
Proline as a plant protein component mainly exists in plants in a free state, and proline tends to accumulate in plants under drought, high salinity, and other stress conditions. In addition to being used as an osmotic regulator in the cytoplasm, the accumulated proline also has the functions of stabilizing the structure of biological macromolecules, reducing cellular acidity, relieving ammonia toxicity, and regulating cell redox potential as an energy bank. There is a significant correlation between proline content and stress resistance of plants, and proline content can be used as the main physiological index of drought resistance and cold resistance breeding.
