Using thin-layer chromatography, we can analyze the chemical characteristics of high-specification commercial spices. To date, we have completed the quality identification of various spice commodities using thin layer chromatography analysis techniques. For example, we have optimized the thin-layer chromatographic conditions for the rapid and accurate identification of cinnamon and its products and have successfully distinguished cinnamon from its substitutes and counterfeit products. The use of thin layer chromatography analysis to identify spices quality has the technical characteristics of simple operation, simple equipment required, short time, superior separation effect, and many samples can be separated simultaneously on one plate.
