Plant lncRNA Specificity Analysis

More than 75% of transcripts are not translated into protein. These transcripts are called non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs). Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), an essential component of ncRNAs, are defined as ncRNAs greater than 200 nucleotides ( nt) in length that are transcription-independent but do not have the potential to encode functional proteins. Since the homology, conservation, and specificity of lncRNAs can indirectly reflect their biological functions, an increasing number of studies have focused on understanding the evolutionary process of lncRNAs.

Lifeasible provides analysis services for plant lncRNA specificity from three aspects, lineage, tissue, and cell, to help our customers worldwide in plant science research. Our platform is equipped with cutting-edge facilities and professional experts to support research. Here, we provide various services according to customers’ demands.

Lineage Specificity Analysis

  • In both animals and plants, lineage specificity of lncRNAs has been found. Since the acquisition and loss of lncRNA loci during evolution is very common, the lineage specificity of lncRNAs is often considered to be related to the adaptive evolution of species.
  • We provide analysis services for plant lncRNA lineage specificity. Comparative analysis is performed between the target species and other different plant species; we count the conserved lncRNAs and some lncRNAs that are specific to the target species. Even for lncRNAs in the same tissue, their expression levels in different species can show germline differences.

Tissue Specificity Analysis

  • Recent plant studies have also identified tissue-specific lncRNAs expressed at specific developmental stages. Studies have shown that lncRNA transcripts may play a role in fiber, flower, fruit, and root development.
  • We help our customers analyze the tissue specificity of plant lncRNA, including root, stem, flower, fruit, seed, and leaves. In plants, many tissue-specific lncRNAs are found to be expressed, and a higher proportion of un-conserved lncRNAs are also found to be expressed tissue-specific than conserved lncRNAs.

Cell Specificity Analysis

  • In tissue-specific studies of lncRNAs, hair lncRNAs showed an overall trend of low expression compared to protein-coding genes. This may be due to low levels of lncRNAs in all cells or expressed in only a few specific cells/cell subpopulations. Cell type-specific lncRNAs have begun to be widely identified in plants.
  • We also offer analysis services for cell specificity of plant lncRNA with microarrays, low-throughput mass spectrometry, and cell type-specific expression profiling. However, even in specific types of cells, lncRNAs are expressed at lower levels compared to mRNAs.
