Pollen Viability Testing Service
In the research of crop hybrid breeding, crop fruiting mechanisms, and pollen physiological mechanisms, the identification of pollen viability is often involved. Pollen viability directly impacts the pollination and fertilization process and is closely related to plant yield. The determination of pollen viability provides insight into the fertility of pollen, as well as the morphological and physiological characteristics of sterile pollen. The rapid determination of pollen viability is the basis for selectingmale sterile plants, improvinghybridization techniques, and revealing the influence of internal and external factors on pollen fertility and fruit set.
What We Offer
Lifeasible offers a wide range of pollen viability assays for different types of pollen, always striving for more efficient and accurate analysis and testing. Depending on the type of pollen you need to test, our experienced and professional experts will help you choose the most cost-effective and rapid method. We offer several common pollen viability testing options below, and you will always get the most suitable one in Lifeasible.
- TTC method
2, 3, 5-Triphenyte-trazoliumchloride (TTC) is a redox pigment that dissolves in water to form a colorless solution and turns red when reduced. The respiration of viable pollen is strong, and a large amount of reducing substances produced can reduce the colorless TTC to red. In contrast, the respiration of inactive pollen is weak, and the color of the TTC does not change significantly.
- I2-KI method
Most normal mature pollen contains a large amount of starch and is stained blue when encountered with I2-KI solutions. However, stunted pollen usually contains no or little starch and does not stain or is stained yellowish-brown when encountered with I2-KI solution.
- Peroxidase method
Active pollen contains active peroxidase, which uses hydrogen peroxide to oxidise various polyphenols and aromatic amines to produce color. The change in color allows the activity of the pollen to be assessed.
- Pollen germination method
Normal mature pollen grains are highly active and can germinate and grow under suitable culture conditions. Pollen activity can be determined by directly observing pollen growth under a microscope and calculating its germination rate.
Service Flow
Sample Requirements
- Fresh flowers, >5g;
- Pollen from fresh flowers from different families, >1g.
*For samples used for plant cultivation, please consult our staff to determine the sample conditions and dosage.
*The experimental samples will not be returned, please back them up by yourself. Before sampling, it is necessary to set up the control group and the experimental group, and each group is suggested to repeat more than 3 times.
*Quick-frozen preservation with liquid nitrogen can minimize the leakage time of plant samples at room temperature.
*There is no restriction on plant varieties. For varieties with special requirements or rare varieties, please contact our staff for more information.
We Do Better
- There are no pollen species restrictions, and Lifeasible offers a wide range of pollen activity tests to choose from.
- Experienced botanists are involved throughout the process to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the pollen activity test results.
- The standardized pollen activity assay process allows for efficient and short turnaround times.
