In living organisms, free radicals act on lipids to undergo peroxidation, and one of the end products of oxidation is malondialdehyde, which causes cross-linked polymerization of proteins, nucleic acids, and other life macromolecules and is cytotoxic. Malondialdehyde is produced by membrane lipid peroxidation in plant tissues under adversity conditions, and its content is closely related to plant aging and adversity injury and is an important parameter reflecting the potential antioxidant capacity of the organism. Therefore, the content of malondialdehyde in plant tissues is usually used as an indicator of the rate and intensity of lipid peroxidation, indicating the degree of cell membrane lipid peroxidation and the strength of plant response to adverse conditions.

Lifeasible provides services for the determination of malondialdehyde content in various plant samples for clients worldwide. The red product formed by the condensation of malondialdehyde with thiobarbituric acid has a maximum absorption peak at 532 nm. The colorimetric determination gives the amount of lipid peroxide in the sample, while the absorbance at 600 nm is measured to eliminate the interference of sucrose on the assay results. The difference between the absorbance at 532 nm and 600 nm is then used to obtain the MDA content in the tissue sample. The results of this service will help you to research plant senescence physiology and resistance physiology.

Sample Requirement

  • Adversely stressed or senescent plant tissue, > 2 g

*The experimental samples will not be returned, please back them up by yourself. Before sampling, it is necessary to set up the control group and the experimental group, and each group is suggested to repeat more than 3 times.
*Quick-frozen preservation with liquid nitrogen can minimize the leakage time of plant samples at room temperature.
*There is no restriction on plant varieties. For varieties with special requirements or rare varieties, please contact our staff for more information.
