Pollen Analysis Service
In the marshland's peat and subaqueous sediment layers, poor decomposition conditions result in the preservation of undecomposed pollen from other growing plants. As pollen morphology is characterized by species or genera, surveys of peat or sediment layers at different depths can provide some insight into the succession of flora and communities at the deposition time. Studies carried out by identifying pollen in such sediments are known as pollen analysis and have been widely applied in various fields such as geology, biology, and climatology. Because of the large pollen yield, small size, and strong outer wall, it is more likely to be preserved in the rock layer. Pollen is a very meaningful tool for comparison and research in terms of climate change, original vegetation distribution, and community turnover. The analysis of pollen in rock formations and on the surface is particularly important and is of increasing interest to researchers.
What We Offer
Lifeasible is committed to providing professional pollen analysis services for pollen in deposited air, surface layers, and rock layers for applications such as surface vegetation distribution research, community evolution study, and climate change analysis. Our expert team can provide analysis services for all types of samples, allowing assessment and prediction of the state of the environment through pollen morphology analysis, pollen class identification, and content analysis, ultimately mapping the pollen spectrum of the region based on the frequency of pollen grain occurrence.
Service Flow
1. Sample Requirements
- Pollen-containing air deposition, surface layers, rock layers; Total pollen content >1g.
- Sample preparation focuses on impurity removal and purification steps in the face of complex samples such as airborne sediment, soil layers and rock layersps. The purification steps are mainly accomplished by standardised acid dissolution, sedimentation, and centrifugation.
*If you have any questions regarding pollen sample sampling, please feel free to consult with our staff to ensure that the sample can be used to accurately assess the site and environment you need to analyze. If required, our experts can visit the site environment to be analysed to take samples in person.
*Experimental samples are non-returnable; please make your backups. Control and experimental groups need to be set up before sampling, and more than 3 replicates per group are recommended.
*No restrictions are placed on plant species. For species with special requirements or rare species, please contact our staff for more information.
2. Pollen Analysis
See our pollen morphology services, pollen category identification services and pollen abundance analysis services. Ultimately the pollen spectrum for the region is mapped based on the results of these pollen analyses.
3. Analysis of Environmental and Climate Change through Pollen
The pollen profile will give us an idea of the vegetation that has lived in the vicinity of the area. By plotting the pollen profile for different soil layers, we can get a general idea of how the vegetation in the area has changed over time. In addition, based on the changes in vegetation, we can infer, for example, the climate change in the area. Pollen analysis alone is somewhat one-sided when inferring community succession and climate change, so only broad predictions can be made. Therefore, combining other information with the actual situation is generally necessary to achieve a more systematic assessment. Here you will need to communicate with our pollen analysis experts to compile as much information as possible.
We Do Better
- Analysis and assessment of vegetation distribution, community succession, and climate change is a complex process, and pollen analysis can be an essential reference but not a single reference. Our experienced experts can provide you with a more comprehensive analysis of the environment's biological, geological and climatic aspects in conjunction with other sources where possible.
- Multiple standardised pollen analysis streams in parallel will result in efficient testing and shorter turnaround times.
- We offer a one-stop process for the analytical flow, and you will receive a detailed analysis report that meets your needs.
