Description
X-Gluc (X-GlcA) has a molecular weight of 521.8 and a CAS number of 18656-96-7. It is a substrate for the detection of the GUS gene in Escherichia coli, and it can be used for the rapid detection of GUS gene fusion markers in plants.

Detection Principle
Under suitable reaction conditions, β-glucosidase (GUS) hydrolyzes X-Gluc into blue substance, which is insoluble in indigo substance in the nuclear tissue of transgenic cells, and the site or locus with GUS activity shows blue color or blue spots, which can be observed by naked eye or microscope.
Applications
The GUS stain is used for GUS gene expression analysis in transgenic plants.
